I clicked rejoin a bunch of times and it wouldn't add me though so I'm out.

Thanks. I got the buttons to work, but I don't have the password. Do either of you happen to know it? I think it was something about Mantis last time.

Just when I thought the worst QB play I'd see this weekend was going to be JT Barrett, Dalton comes in today and said "Hold my beer."

Do they have a viable backup?

AJ McCarron. He looks solid most of the time I've seen him play. There's been a lot of talk of trading him because some teams that are in need of a QB would actually use him as a starter. Most of the fans today were screaming for him to come in to replace Dalton, and rightfully so. A couple of Dalton's picks were off tipped balls, but even so you should never have that many turnovers. He also missed a wide open receiver for a TD (flashbacks of Barrett) and several other throws that should have been made.

Watching the Panthers/49ers game. Not sure who the commentating crew is (NFL on FOX), but it might be Daryl Johnston and Chris Myers. Anyway, the 49ers mess up a 2nd down play near the goal line and Hoyer has no one to hand off to, so he scrambles left, considers throwing it away, but takes a sack (-5 yards). One of the commentators goes on for about 20 seconds about how smart that was not to throw the ball because he had a lineman in the endzone (designed run). I mean repeated 2 or 3 times how smart that was. The penalty for ineligible man downfield? 5 yards AND YOU REPLAY THE DOWN.

Sanosuke
09-10-2017, 07:39 PM
Yes they will have a running game. Again, much of what they do on the ground is based off Wilson's ability and threat to run and he was completely unable to do that last year. He could barely scramble for half the season. If Wilson is healthy and mobile, the Seahawks will be able to run the ball. With anyone.
Baldwin is good. Graham is healthy. Kearse sucks but he's reliable and does the dirty work. They've got some young guys coming up, but it really doesn't matter. Russell will get the ball to whoever is on the field.
You're just wrong, Sano. Seattle will make the playoffs for the 6th season in a row. You'll see.

I don't care if you're joking or not. I find you so irritating that even if you are joking, it doesn't matter to me. Usually you can only joke around with people that you actually like. But I didn't unnecessarily follow you. I'm not coming to a thread because you posted here. I came to the NFL thread because there's an NFL game going on. Your comment was the fresh one, it was about Watson not being fast. It's perfectly on topic given the player involved and the person posting. It's a joke that you clearly can't handle. You're all the time popping into sports threads to laugh at another team's misfortune, but you can't handle the slightest bit of criticism directed back at you. I think it's ridiculous, but I'm going to stop interacting with you if that's what you want. Fair enough?

Welp, the good news is we fired our offensive coordinator already (which is shocking considering it's the Bengals and we never make changes until way after the fact usually). The bad news is we have the QB coach assuming the new role for the OC. The same QB coach who is currently coaching statistically the worst QB in the NFL as of right now...

that said, i think this game 1. made the broncos look better than they are, and 2. made the cowboys look worse than they are.

denver doesn't lose at home early in the season. just a fact.
cowboys lost half of their already thin and inexperienced secondary.
cowboys were completely unprepared for the altitude which obviously had a large effect on them

make no mistake, i can't remember a bigger destruction of the cowboys since 44-6. but i still think they're easily the best team in the nfc east and will make the playoffs by a comfortable margin. i'd be more worried about the broncos in that division than the cowboys in theirs, even after this game.

Hernandez played football, fact. Hernandez playing in the NFL is the reason why his brain is fucked. Yes and no. For the family, and all these players to chase after the NFL for money because of brain damage is like suing A cup manufacturer because you burned yourself with what was inside.

I'm fairly certain all this brain trauma starts with Pop Warner and going forward in your age group leagues. Play football your entire life, you're gonna have brain damage. Not a hard concept to understand. It's also not ALL the NFL's fault either

The Butcher
09-22-2017, 09:31 AM
I think maybe the head injuries just cultivated his already existing inner demons.

I did think it was interesting they were, it seems like, trying to exonerate a convicted killer and blame it on football.

Sanosuke
09-22-2017, 10:52 AM
I would agree. I don't like how the article was spun either if I'm honest. If you're going to excuse his murders with football, better do that for everything drug and domestic violence related issues players have too.

Maverik
09-22-2017, 10:55 AM
the brain is something we will never really understand or be able to map, but I definitely agree with Butch

I think that the trauma will absolutely exacerbate a pre-existing condition, not necessarily create one.

football attracts a certain type of person and I think that category of person is largely predispositioned towards aggressive/irrational behavior

obviously this is a big generalization from me combining the little bits and pieces I've learned from articles like the one Butch posted

Hulky
09-22-2017, 11:47 AM
It's not just the NFL's fault though, Aaron Hernandez was on the murder path before he joined the NFL. He fell in the draft for gang like behaviors and associations.

I mean, the offense tore up the field. Thompson is the truth and Vernon Davis must have found the fountain of youth. Kirk was a machine. But damn if 30-0 wouldn't have made a statement to the rest of the league. It sucks that you can be dominant for every single play except for the two turnovers and those two mistakes equate to 10 points.

Hugh
09-25-2017, 10:47 AM
Sure, but the statement was made. Even with those costly mistakes the Redskins completely domintated a team that most people are calling one of the best in the league. It was amazing to watch. The defensive line was doing whatever they wanted.

Wouldn't Sproles be considered one of the all time great return men? I'm not sure. He's had a really long career and definitely put up some numbers. He's got to be top 10 but maybe even better than that? Top 5?

bdog1321
09-25-2017, 01:36 PM
he's definitely an all-time great football player

Hugh
09-25-2017, 02:54 PM
I wonder if Sproles will get into the Hall of Fame? He probably should because of how versatile and unique a player he is, and how long he's been doing it, but who knows. He still did most of his damage as a return man, and those guys never get in.

Hulky
09-25-2017, 03:22 PM
I wouldn't put him anywhere near the Hall of Fame
not in the top 250 for rushing or receiving yards
his 52 combined rushing/receiving TDs is very good for a career, but like Blount has 50 rushing TDs alone and no one should consider him a HOF either.
He is 7th in return yardage. 7th isn't an all time great. Hester is 8th, but Hester is the HOF'r given he returned TDs all the way into the SB and his return almost let Grossman beat Manning in the SB. Cribbs has better return numbers than either, but Hester is the pick for comparative SB success.
55th with a lot of people for KR TDs.
7th for PR TDs (Hester has 14).

Basically nothing about Sproles says HOF. He could be ring of honor or whatever for the Chargers or whatever one day, but he wasn't that good to be HOF.

The Butcher

The one thing would be all purpose yards. He's #8 all time with almost 20,000, and pretty much everyone else in the top 10 is a HOFer. Of course Brian Mitchell is the exception, and he's the all time return leader, so it's hard to imagine Sproles getting in and not Mitchell.
I think most people would agree that Sproles was much more of a real offensive player and overall threat/talent than Mitchell, who was truly a specialist, but Sproles numbers aren't miles better. I think Hulky is right. Not a Hall of Famer.
So bdog is wrong. Not one of the all time greats.

bdog1321
09-25-2017, 04:36 PM
he is clearly one of the all-time greats at what he does. all-time great rb? obviously no. all-time great wr? obviously no.

Maverik
09-25-2017, 05:34 PM
I've almost certainly watched more snaps with Sproles on the field than you have, so that was a silly thing to bring up.

He's spent more years in SD than in Philly and it wasn't until NO broke him out that he really showed how dynamic he was. SD used him more-so for Special Teams than Offense.

The most impressive thing about Sproles is how long he played at pretty much the same level. That just doesn't happen. I think it was a few years ago I was watching an Eagles game and Sproles made a great play and I thought "Was that Darren Sproles? How long has that guy been around?"
It was the first year he made the Pro Bowl and All Pro then he did it again. The league was finally starting to acknowledge him, and for good reason. But end of the day Sproles was an excellent return man who was good for a handful of TDs a year as a change of pace back.

If you read the NFL.com article on why Dez Bryant isn't elite it is pretty compelling though. His route tree does seem somewhat limited and his footwork / nuances on routes are a bit rough. He's a great physical specimen but he's not a technician by any means. I think stories of his decline may be overstating it but I also do not consider him to be one of the top 5 wide receivers in the game. He has a pretty rough schedule against #1 cornerbacks this year so you can really see what you think. He did pretty much nothing this game until they ran a zone play where Peterson wasn't directly responsible for covering him - though the effort and physicality by Dez was obviously awesome

I'm not jumping off the bridge after 3 games. Not my first season. The Seahawks haven't played well yet but they usually start slow. Look how bad the Raiders looked Sunday night? Do you think they're that bad?
Seattle has the horses but it just hasn't clicked. It will.

Sanosuke
09-26-2017, 10:28 AM
Youre implying the Redskins are bad defensively this season, or at least haven't improved since last season. They've only given up 1 more point to opposing teams than the Seahawks right now. 200 less yards of total offense than the Seahawks, and created 5 more turnovers than the seahawks.

I'm not saying the Redskins defense is as good as Seattle's, but I'm just comparing them against one of the consensus best defenses in the NFL through 3 weeks. Oakland also had to go across the country to play them and there. The Rams are not trash offensively or defensively and they played them close and won @ LA.

The Raiders need to figure themselves out on offense. Cooper has bricks for hands. His numbers have always been based off volume, not on how effective he is imo and everyone loves Cooper based off potential but the league is and always will be about "what have you done for me lately?".

Through 3 weeks the 49ers have given up the 4th most points but only 9 of those came from the Seahawks. That was a Seattle home game too.

I just think you don't have real expectations for Seattle. At this point they're a wildcard team at best.

Sanosuke
09-26-2017, 10:32 AM
@ Gypsy, this is from r/fantasy football

"I'm convinced that the Chiefs have a starter ceremony where they take what's left of their previous RB and have the new one just hover over their lifeless corpse like a dementor in Harry Potter and just suck his football essence until he's nothing but a lifeless husk that they turn and wheel out the back door never to be seen again. See: Larry Johnson, Jamaal Charles, Spencer Ware"

Hugh
09-26-2017, 12:55 PM
If the Seahawks are a wildcard team at best how are you going to explain it when they win the NFC West?
I could ramble on but just look at the division and look at Seattle. QB, coach and defense. It's 3 games. They're notorious for starting slow. They'll get it going.

bludhoundz
09-26-2017, 01:08 PM
Yeah I don't think SF has a shot at the division. Arizona is not a good team. Its between Seattle and LA imo, LA may be a little more complete all around (yet to see w Goff tho) but they are extremely young and Seattles been there done that

Maverik
09-26-2017, 03:07 PM
SEA probably wins the division by default because the NFC West blows, but they won't go anywhere come playoff time.

Hugh may be in denial about that, but the writing has been on the wall since last year and only Seahawks fans had much hope beyond that.

they're pretty painful to watch right now though, so I do hope they find some life

So now you're actually doubting my ability to ramble on about my Seahawks. Wow.

Yeah the Giants suck ass this year.

Philly isn't exactly great though. I mean, our passing game was so anemic through the first 2 games and it suddenly woke up against the Eagles. They need to get healthy on the back end, and maybe that wont even be enough to stop the bleeding in some games.

I like a lot of what I see in Philadelphia football so far.

Except Sproles, Peters getting hurt every play, and the return game could be better.

If their offense was like it was Sunday, they have a chance

Nantz- As a kid from Wisconsin you must have dreamed about playing in Lambeaugh Field.
Romo- As a kid from Wisconsin I had lots of dreams. Most of them turned into nightmares in 2014 with the whole Catch/No Catch thing. But I’m over it, let’s just call the game.

Lol. Seriously, that’s great shit.

So the game is on weather delay and Chris Rose just introduced David Carr as ”Superbowl Champion David Carr.”
I mean I know he can’t introduce him as “Eli Manning’s backup” but let’s not be ridiculous.
