Cowboys have been one of the worst coached teams in the NFL for at least a decade.

I agree. I also think there's an issue at the ownership level. Like ok, he's the GM too basically and yes they drafted/signed/traded for a bunch of talented players. No denying it, the Cowboys roster is pretty well constructed. But who's the star of the Cowboys? It's not Dak, it's not Zeke. It's Jerry Jones. Him being too involved adds this whole additional layer of drama to the organization. Think about it, how often do they zoom in on him in the box compared to other owners? Then you hear about him in the locker room all the time, I've seen him on the fucking sideline during the middle of the game before. I think he came down there in the 4th quarter in a close game. Plus he's very outspoken in general and I think that just brings a lot of unnecessary attention and raises the pressure for everyone.

Culture starts at the top and trickles down. That team is always gonna have the spotlight on, so everything gets blown up. And its worse when things are actually happening as opposed to all being quiet.

Hugh
12-07-2019, 05:15 PM
All good points and true. One thing I always loved about the Seahawks was Paul Allen (RIP). He was the richest owner in the NFL and relatively speaking I don’t think it was close. Like Paul Allen literally owned a billion dollars worth of yachts. Just yachts alone. I heard once that The Octopus, the largest privately owned boat on earth, is worth like $500 million.
But he never gave one press conference. Paul Allen never wanted to be the face of the Seahawks. He just wanted to be a behind the scenes owner, and I know there are plenty of owners like that, but whenever I hear that egomaniac Jerry Jones talking bullshit on the mic it makes me glad he’s not the owner of my team.

Hulky
12-08-2019, 01:43 AM
Stan Kroenke was close if you go by husband + wife net worth. His wife is Ann Walton, and her father was the brother of Sam Walton of Walmart. They each have around 10bil I think.

bdog1321
12-08-2019, 09:18 PM
Unpopular opinion but the seahawks aren't that good. They're the cowboys from 2018. They win a bunch of close games that historically are usually around .500. They'll be worse next year

bdog1321
12-08-2019, 09:19 PM
In fact I'd argue they're not even as good as the cowboys this year. Worse in most meaningful stats. Wilson is just a wizard

bludhoundz
12-09-2019, 12:41 AM
Rams have been a problem for the Hawks for a while now. I'd be willing to bet that the pressure rate Russell Wilson has faced in his career vs the Rams is double that he faces on his average game out of all the other games in his career. For sure the Rams having a nasty d line and Hawks' pass protection game not being great has been a factor, but there's just some divisional beef thing here. The Rams just tend to win these games more than the Seahawks.

That said, I think Wilson has masked a lot of the team's deficiencies. I don't think their defense is actually that good. Unlike some of the other top contenders in the NFC like the 49ers and Saints. Though their defenses didn't show up today, they've been pretty strong all year. I think they're still good enough to make a run but I think their defense is going to need to step up and live on takeaways, like the '09 Saints or '10 Packers who had mid level defenses that just took the ball away a ton.

Hugh
12-09-2019, 12:59 AM
Yeah for sure. Our defense is somewhat opportunistic but I know they aren’t on the level of the Niners or Saints. The Seahawks had an elite defense for a long time. I know what one looks like. This ain’t it.
But the last couple of games they started playing better. Tonight was one of those rare games when we just couldn’t do shit on either side, and like you said that seems to happen against the Rams more often than not.

KBHoleN1
12-09-2019, 11:12 AM
Just looked at Russell's splits vs all teams (just regular season). He has losing records against 3 of them. 1-2 vs Saints, 0-2 vs Chargers (weird), and 7-9 vs the Rams. 3-7 against the Rams over the last 5 seasons. So definitely some fuckery going on when compared to the Seahawks' dominance over the rest of the NFL (78-30-1 in Wilson's time in Seattle).

bdog1321
12-09-2019, 01:11 PM
So wilson is now Aaron rodgers. Good enough to carry a meh team. Both of them have good ground games this year, which is why I think their teams are winning games. The packers aren't that good either

Hugh
12-09-2019, 09:04 PM
He’s certainly that level but I figured everyone knew that by now.
As far as Dallas goes they’ve put up impressive numbers against absolute shit teams all year, and by that I mean the entire NFC East. That division is a a dumpster fire.
The Cowboys don’t have a win over a team with a .500 or better record, and it’s week 14. Meanwhile the Seahawks are 10-3 in the toughest division in football. So Dallas might have some impressive numbers but I’d slow down on saying they’re a better team than Seattle.

I think we can all agree on one thing:

It is good to see New England lose.

bludhoundz
12-10-2019, 09:16 AM
For sure. It was interesting watching the game they lost to the Chiefs. It played out in a way you'd almost expect to go the other way. Like so many times I'd see other "elite" teams lose to the Patriots by trying every way possible and still fall up short in the end. We've seen it with teams like the Chiefs, Broncos, etc. But this time it was the Pats that you could see tried so hard to win and were just clawing back but couldn't do it.

I don’t remember anyone saying the Bengals. Bad sure but not in the conversation for the absolute worst.
It’s not even an argument now. They’re getting trounced by the Dolphins and Fitzpatrick looks like Drew Brees against them.

Seahawks are likely done winning this year. Duane Brown needs surgery. Chris Carson is out and his backup broke his arm today. Clowney didn’t even dress.
With a $35 million a year QB we don’t have much left for depth. If Seattle is healthy we are good, but unlike some teams we can’t lose starters and still do what we do. Most importantly protect Wilson. Backups couldn’t even slow down Arizona today and they were just rushing 4.

Joe Namath completed 50% of his career passes, threw almost 50 more interceptions than TDs and finished with a passer rating of 65.5. I don’t care what era he played in, that’s trash. He played for NY, won the Super Bowl and wore a fur coat on the sideline. I get it. Broadway Joe was cool.

Era-adjusted QBs are nonsense. I agree that if your completion percentage was dookie and threw a ton of picks you shouldn't be on the list. I don't even think Joe Namath is cool, he's pretty lame to me. Thinks hes a bigshot for winning a game where his team scored 16 points and the other team scored 7. I feel like there were a lot of bad decisions made in that game by both teams. Sloppy coaching and some genuine panic from players. Even the decision to attempt the game winning FG on 1st down at the end was dicey. Turned out ok but we’ve seen so much bad happen with chip shot FGs and extra points this year. So many fuckups.
But Watson’s big escape and conversion at the end was one of the plays of the season. He’s one of those QBs you can do everything right against, and the Bills did most of the day, and he can still kill you with that offscript brilliance. There aren’t many who can.

I also can’t believe they didn’t flag Clowney for the hit on Wentz. Not only was it helmet to helmet but Wentz was already on the ground. Only thing I can think is no ref saw the hit clearly, amazing as it sounds. They always call that.
I saw 2 Eagles jump offsides on defense so clearly that you could see it from the cheap seats and apparently the line judge, who’s job is to fucking stare at the line of scrimmage, missed it. NFL refs continue to be trash across the board.
They kept talking about the “90 years of collective experience” or whatever the crew had and none of them can tell their ass from a hole in the ground.

I like this post much better. I thought the last one was defending the Wentz hit.

The cunt refs explanation was that it was "incidental contact", which you can see clearly from any replay that it was contact with the intent to injury. AKA targeting.

Surprised the refs got out of there alive. That being said, it was the 93rd injury of the season, we were barely hanging on. I honestly didn't feel like holding my breath the entire playoffs again, shit is stressful.

Let em rest

Seattle is a good team, usually always are. I was extremely annoyed with Lynch scored that touchdown, old ass bitch. And the 4th string defense couldn't tackle. Just frustrating all around.

Don’t know what’s to hate about the Joe Judge hire? Because he’s been on the Patriots staff for 8 years?
Yeah they don’t know anything about winning over there...
It’s better than hiring someone like Garrett who already proved he can’t win, even with talent, even with a QB, even in a shit division.

Hulky

I don;t think any one knows who Joe Judge is which makes the hire neither good nor bad.

I think Mike McCarthy is a lower meh hire, and I don't like the Panthers hire much. The Ron Rivera hire though is hiring a 2x coach of the year.

Sorry, Butch. I wasn’t trying to justify the hit. It’s weird because I haven’t seen anything like that from Clowney before, and I haven’t heard he had a rep of dirty play from Houston, so I can’t really explain something that looked so blatant from him. But we all saw it, so it is what it is.

The hit is one thing, i mean it's football and people are nasty. I'm a philly fan.. I yell out "KILL THAT FUCKER" at least 5 times a game.

But him going and taunting philly fans in the stadium after the game, taunting them to a reporter afterwards.. that's a real bad look. The fact he doesn't understand that he was getting hate because his dirty hit took our franchise quarterback out of the game for like the 10th fucking time.

I would have thrown a brick at that cocksucker real quick. The fuck he thinks he is?

Curious to see how the coaching thing will play out. I would've been cool with Wink Martindale or Eric Bieniemy but don't know much about Joe Judge. Seems like a conceptually good hire but no idea how it'll actually play out.

I don't know too much about Matt Rhule but the Panthers almost certainly downgraded. A bit annoyed the Skins were smart enough to get Rivera. Not sure how I feel about McCarthy to the Cowboys. He's definitely an upgrade on what they had and was once considered one of the better coaches in the league, but he did manage to break an offense containing Aaron Rodgers. And he does fall into the camp (admittedly the majority of coaches do) of guys who throw really stupid challenge flags

Love Matt Rhule (I'm a Temple Grad), just always a mystery about a college coach going to NFL. Hate that the cowboys got rid of Garrett for McCarthy (simply because I think it makes Dallas much better). The Giants new coach is a bit of a mystery. Only 2 Belicheck disciples have winning records as Head Coaches, but who knows the guy seems to be a no nonsense smart guy and NYG definitely has talent on the roster.

Hugh

So the XFL extra points will work like this. No kicking at all. You can try I play from the 2 yard line for 1 point, from the 3 yard line for 2 points or from the 10 yard for 3 points.
I think it’s fucking brilliant.

Hulky
01-10-2020, 12:40 AM
Everyone should go for 3 in that system tbh

Hugh
01-10-2020, 02:08 AM
Except the 3 point play will practically be a guaranteed pass. Everyone defense will have 3 down and everyone else off the line in coverage. It’s just one play. I think the 3 point play will be very low success rate.

bludhoundz
01-10-2020, 08:43 AM
I think analytics will likely show that the 3 yard 2-point conversion would be best. It's only one extra yard from the 1 point play so the success rate can't be THAT much lower. So your expected value will almost certainly go up. Twice as many points x more than half as likely = better value

Like Derrick Henry low key has 1273 rushing yards and what like 15 rushing TDs... since week 10 (including the 2 playoff games). He's going over 2k regular season + playoffs. I kinda think Henry is MVP especially if they advance to the SB.

He’s smart, young, healthy and rich. His net worth is around $25 million.
Why the fuck keep playing football? Why continue to risk turning his brain into a bowl of scrambled eggs? This CT shit is real. Players just like him are losing their minds and killing themselves because of too many shots to the head. Look at Junior Seau. I’m guessing he’s one of Kuechly’s idols.
I get risking it all for the dream of getting to the NFL and making millions, but he’s done it and then some. He became the very best at what he does. 5x all pro. He made it to the SB but it wasn’t in the cards and now the Panthers are going to have to rebuild.
You’re going to see a lot more players like Luck and Kuechly hanging it up in their prime and using their heads for something other than a speed bag.

Captain (1.5x points): Amari Cooper
FLEX: Lamar Jackson
FLEX: Michael Thomas
FLEX: Austin Hooper
FLEX: NFC Defense
FLEX: Justin Tucker

Figured Amari and Hooper are pending FAs so teams might feature them a bit trying to recruit maybe? Michael Thomas is cool and I like the NFC QBs more Brees/Wilson/Cousins over Lamar/Watson/Tannehill for getting the ball to WRs so I doubled on NFC WRs. A defense frequently is on the probowl DK winning lineup so I rolled with NFC. If the NFC D is doing good, I figure AFC prolly still gets some kicking range points for Tucker, since one kicker per team I figure he might be able to pace some of the main players. Lamar over all other QBs because I bet he is hype as hell to be in the probowl and wants to light it up after his playoff semi-dud.

it's basically a mock draft league I guess you could say it's a mock offseason instead of just the draft though. If you are big into the draft, college prospects and obviously NFL it's footballsfuture.com it's on the forums. Each team has their own board and a lot of teams have good communities (Seahawks community is kinda meh, but not dead), but this is a league in the GM Draft board called TCMD (Total Control Mock Draft) it's done once or twice every year.

The rest of the forum is worth checking out though if you really are into football. A lot of people are dumb, but its a much more football literate group in general than other forums or sites Ive seen.

Browns lineman Greg Robinson, #2 pick in the 2014 draft, was stopped by police in a car along with former Auburn teammate Quan Bray. They had 127 pounds of marijuana in the car.

This was like fucking perfect for him. He knew this was going to be a huge deal here because of how storied his time in New England is, like him or not you could argue it's on par with like Jordan or Bird or any other storied great in a sport. There was no way this was going to go down smoothly. Brady's dad actually famously said years ago on a radio talk show he didn't see how things could possibly end well in New England, because he knew Brady would want to just keep playing and Bellicheck is way too pragmatically brutal to sign an aging quarterback. So him being able to quietly put the news out he's leaving New England, which like him or not is objectively huge news, while there's something massively overshadowing it, was like hitting the lottery for him. I agree with you, it's douchey, but I totally get why he did it. This would be like plastered all over the news if we weren't all gonna die.

Pretty happy with the Broncos offseason so far. Add Graham Glasgow and Melvin Gordon. Get AJ Bouye for a 4th-round pick. Get Jurrell Casey for a 7th-round pick. Franchise Justin Simmons. And Denver still has a bunch of picks in the draft. Hoping we can get some help for the offensive line because Bolles sucks. We're probably taking a WR with our first pick.

I think the Broncos go Josh Jones the tackle from Houston at 15, then WR in the second like Jalen Reagor.

Could be. I haven't looked at the draft all that much. I'm guessing it will depend on who gets taken before the Broncos have their pick. Since they have 10 picks (I think) it's possible they trade up. I read an article that had them trading up to 11 and taking Ruggs.

Hulky that Jags - Lions trade would go down as one of the biggest in NFL history lol (yes being overly dramatic), but if Lions can drop from 3 to 9 and gain 20/Jags DE that would be nuts with you have the OSU CB dropping to 9 (I don't think he slips past 5-7)

I don't think Yannick on a franchise tag is worth more than Clowney in trade comp. Like Clowney was on a tag and went for a 3rd. Yannick is in the same situation is worse against the run but better against the pass, but is acting like a complete clown on social media. He gives a lot of Antonio Brown vibes and I doubt the "we want a first value" works out. 9+20 is exactsies value for 3 on the Jimmy Johnson trade value chart, so Yannick is the throw in to beat a MIA or LAC deal.

NFL West:
Cardinals - A+ (Might be my favorite draft.)
49ers - B- (Kinlaw's knees need to be good for this class to work. Aiyuk is pretty raw for as high as he went. Trade for Trent Williams was kinda desperate and tbh just staying at 12 and drafting one may have been better. Or even Jeudy at 12 and Josh Jones at 31 or a trade down from 31 as Jones went in the third)
Seattle - B (It's a weird draft though Seattle reaches a lot but got some good dudes... I think they got 4 starters in Lewis, Taylor, Brooks and maybe long term Alton Robinson who has some upside in him)
Rams - D (They failed to draft a single fucking lineman ffs... Akers is aight... but has no line... Terrell Burgess might be their best draftee... Lewis always hurt and Jefferson for Cooks is meh at least it saves them money Jefferson is a good route runner but more like a budget Robert Woods than a speedster.

AFC West
Raiders - C Ruggs and Amik are the only two I'm like stoked about. Arnette was pretty trash for years and then 1 year wondered it his senior year but lacks arm length and althletic upside and is kinda old for a rookie so he's more a C ish grade. We took too many WRs with Bryan Edwards probably being the better of the two taken in the third. Bowden supposedly will be a backup RB which is interesting but a shitty use of the 80th pick. John Simpson is aight long term and Tanner Muse is kinda sorta a waste. Muse is basically a baby developmental Heath and we just signed Heath so not sure if Muse is really more than a ST now and really into the immediate future.
Chiefs - B CEH on the Chiefs is fucking bs. Niang if he gets healthy is a good value. Willie Gay is pretty freakish athletically if he doesn't do naughty things in the league.
Chiefs - B. If Herbert is >peak Dalton than it's an A. I like Murray and Gilman a lot for them and KJ Hill was dope value in the 7th.
Broncos - A. One of the strongest drafts imo. Jeudy, Ojemudia, Cushenberry, Strnad and Muti are all good picks and Agim and Albert O have upside.

NFC East
Giants - C (I kinda think the Giants low key punted after third first two picks which were both very good. Shane Lemeiux might turn out to be a starter though opposite Hernandez.)
Cowboys - A (Ceedee is good value, but Reggie Robinson, Tyler Biadasz and Gallimore were very strong picks. Anae and Diggs were fair picks and the only reach was on a 7th rounder rando QB. If Biadasz' hip is healthy Cowboys might have one of the best drafts).
Redskins - A- (This class is completely carried by Chase Young who is off the charts good as a DE prospect, like Myles Garrett is closest comp... plus the Skins might suck but around Chase Young is Payne, Allen and Sweat so it's 4 first round picks on the DL plus Ryan Kerrigan)
Eagles - B- (This grade is either a B or an F. They got fast as fuck.)

AFC East
Jets - A- (I like their class, but it has a lot more boom busts than the other A range teams)
Patriots - D+ (tbh Dugger and Uche are the only two good picks. Those two are As, Jennings and Onwenu are C the rest solid F.
Dolphins - B+ (This is carried by Tua. They kinda fucked up big time given what the upside of all their picks was. Hunt Jones and Kindley are the three I'd say are safe bets to be pretty good value outside Tua. Jackson is 20 and raw with athletic upside, and Igbinoghene is similar... I just dunno if that's a smart route to go with basically weird offseason coaching this year and then Noah Igbinoghene is also a CB and they have like the two highest paid CBs in Xavier Howard and Byron Jones so I dunno how that shits going to work out maybe he plays slot and thats not really good value in the first (ie Amik was close to best nickel cb in the class and went like 4th round.)
Bills - A- (This is the strongest class without a first round pick or at least a contender imo, top to bottom good picks)

NFC North
Packers - C (Love should be good down the line but this was an inappropriate time to take him since they were a game away from the SB last year. Garvin I think is a good 7th rounder and Deguara was taken a bit early but I like him. It's a little hilarious that in such a stupidly deep WR class they ignored the position. Like KJ Hill in the 7th probably starts on the Packers tbh)
Bears - D+ (This class is carried by Jaylon Johnson who is an A. The rest of the class sucks ass. Like Kmet is good but he's the 8th TE on the Bears currently... prolly TE2 for them behind Jimmy Graham this year with a shorten offseason, but a stupid pick for their first pick because shit like OL with Josh Jones would have been infinitely more impactful. It's almost like they want Trubiski to fail so they can get Fields or Lawrence next year.)
Lions - B+ (A tier class until the pick after Cephus, then they went randoms and dinged their grade a bit, good class though)
Vikings - A- (Similar grade to the Lions I think with a very solid class until late, except I think the Vikings nailed a 7th rounder in Willekes.)

AFC North
Ravens - A maybe A+ (one of the strongest drafts top to bottom. Like James Proche and Geno Stone were their 6th and 7th rounders who were worth it in like the 4th)
Bengals - A- (Burrow is an A+, they just didn't really do so hot afterwards. Getting a Burrow tier player is a game changer though so still in the A range)
Browns - A- (I like all their picks, but I think they could have done better so I'm deducting a parital grade because I dont like the class as much as other A tier)
Steelers - C (Highsmith and Claypool define their class and both are raw high upside guys.)

AFC South
Texans - B - (Blacklock Greenard and Heck were solid picks. Traded so much of their class that landing three solids is worth a B)
Colts - A- (This is how you nail the draft without a first rounder similar to the Bills. I think Jonathan Taylor might transform that offense in a big way and this is one of the few ideal scenarios for Eason to develop. Pittman is a budget version of Keenan Allen for Rivers too so that's solid.)
Jaguars - B (Thought about deducting another partial grade because its not as strong as previous Jaguars drafts, but they really shoulda considered moving up for Tua. I like their first three picks though, but this team has issues and Minshew as their only QB seems like they are trying to top 5 pick, but drafting some good pieces.)
Titans - C+ (Isaiah Wilson basically only had first round value to this specific team. Henry running behind Wilson should be fun. Fulton was a solid pick and Evans is a solid backup for Henry.)
