So... I understand this whole "kick FGs on 3rd down in case there's a bad snap so you have an extra down." I really do. But they were so fucking close I'm not sure I wouldn't have given the ball to David Johnson again.

I'll say this though, Seattle got away with one. Bobby Wagner broke the leaping rule TWICE on those field goal attempts by touching another player when jumping over. The first time they even picked up the flag despite clear evidence that it was correctly thrown. I'm not really sure Arizona deserved to win though, good lord

Hugh
10-24-2016, 09:39 AM
He broke it once, the first time. The second time the left guard reached up and grabbed him. The lineman initiated contact, like they explained.
But the first time was ridiculous. Especially considering the ref actually threw the flag and then picked it up. I'd be pissed if I was Arians too.

Hugh
10-24-2016, 10:00 AM
I can't believe our defense though. That was one of the greatest performances I've seen, as far as digging deep and just being tough as hell. Seahawks defense was on the field for 90 plays. That hasn't happened here in 24 years. Our offense was gucking terrible all game so the defense never really got a break. They allowed 6 points in 5 quarters on the road against a good team. Can't ask for more.
But our offense is fucked. They need to fix it now. I don't know why it's so hard to throw to Jimmy Graham. I really don't. Whenever we start doing it, it works, but we go entire quarters, halfs, even games when we just don't do it. It's frustrating.

KBHoleN1

The O-line problems reminded me of watching Ohio State this weekend. Absolutely no time for Wilson to drop back and read anything.

Hugh
10-24-2016, 11:54 AM
True, but that's why we're paying Jimmy Graham $10 million. Get the ball, plant and throw it in his direction. At this point it's the only answer to our line issues. I don't care if teams know it's coming. Don't care is he's covered by a linebacker or nickel corner half his size. I don't give a fuck if he's not open.
He's 6'7" and 270 lbs. Graham doesn't always separate or run away from guys. He's not always open. But if you throw him the ball he usually comes down with it. I know Wilson can do it. I've seen him do it. He did it 3 times in the OT drive. For some reason we just don't do it consistently. We keep trying to establish the run with a terrible line, no RB and a QB with a sprained knee and ankle.
I'm no offensive cooordinator, but it seems we make it way harder than we need to.

that's the problem with stats.

You definitely saw a few throws that got away from him last game (especially 1st INT), but there were so many 1st down passes dropped by receivers it's insane. I can't wait to see what happens as they build this team around him. Specifically a solid OL and a #1 WR.

Yeah, numbers lie. People like to say they don't, but they often do.

In terms of winning games it's arguable. In terms of making him look good though, no way.

It was a bullshit call for sure, but there were some bad calls on both sides. Norman didn't play straight up all day. He got flagged a bunch, but there were at least 3 others he should have been flagged on as well. All I heard coming into the game was how good he was, yet he didn't play without holding, interfering, hands to the face on literally 80+% of the throws his way. We had so many chances to win it with the FG, the PAT (like seriously wtf how do you miss a PAT with a good hold), Dalton overthrowing Green twice in OT, Green dropping one in OT that would have put us in FG range.

Neither team wanted to win that game, so we didn't. Ties are dumb.

513 yards passing for Derek Carr (10th -tied all time passing yards in a game)
most penalties by a team ever, but still win
down to the wire at regulation, and OT
clutch plays all over, both made and blown for massive high/low swings
our LT, who used to play for them, caught a TD

fucking insanity

its true the system makes things easy i don't deny it. but in this game the idea should be to keep the ball away from the cowboys. they are not a team designed to play from behind (they don't get chunks in the air often) and their defense is not good. so philly's death by papercut is a good formula here.

I don't get why they don't trade Romo. Like say oh look he's healthy, we got Dak so now Romo's activated and ready to play, then trade him. Jerry Jones has drafted really well recently and this class looks pretty stacked. I'd think someone like the Rams would consider him for a upper mid rounder at least pick with Goff not being a starter yet and Romo as a stop gap while still in the playoff race with a legit RB and defense.

sweet jesus it's like having andy reid back.... how does a coach lose a game like that.

Notes from game:

1) Prescott = most overrated QB in NFL
2) Can the Eagles please get a WR during Wentz's career?
3) A few CBs would be nice.
4) Terrence Williams offensive PI may have been one of the smartest plays I've ever seen a NFL player make. Mad respect for him there.
5) I had the Eagles at 6-10 coming into this season, but man is it frustrating losing a game like that. Eagles should have won that game with ease.
6) Doug Pederson please wake up

I don't understand how they should have won with ease? Dallas dominated in total yards, it's not like Philly was just marching up and down the field and then turning the ball over. Dak throwing that goal line pick was a huge swing, because Dallas could have been looking at a 17-10 halftime lead instead of a 10-13 deficit. I thought Dak left a lot of plays on the table, not finding open receivers in the middle, overthrowing and underthrowing open receivers (the fade route to a wide open Dez in the endzone that hit the trailing defender comes to mind). What makes you say the Eagles should have won easily?

The Butcher

I think a healthy Romo wins that game in regulation. Dak looked lost against the blitz - I'm not saying he won't get better with experience, but Romo would have been better prepared to handle that pressure. Dak targeted Dez 14 times, Dez only had 4 catches, and I can't recall a pass I thought Dez should have caught and didn't. He missed him so many times, especially those red zone throws. And if not for T-Will committing that penalty, Dak would have thrown 2 redzone picks.

The Butcher

Not going to start this again. 4th quarter comebacks, game winning drives, always having to come from behind to make up for a defense that can't get stops. Dallas finally has some semblance of a defense this year, in past years after Dallas tied the game the Eagles would have marched down the field and kicked a game winning field goal. That's what Romo has had to deal with for years. His best years as a passer have been squandered by poor defense.

Hugh
10-31-2016, 09:30 AM
I have no idea why you think the Eagles should have won with ease. Lol. What?
The Eagles didn't win the time of possession or turnover battle. They didn't rush or pass for more yards. They did a really good job against Prescott for most of the game, but who cares? The game's not over at the end of 3 quarters and sometimes not at the end of 4. He made the plays at the end.
Philly is not a better team than Dallas. They had a good game plan coming in and executed it well for most of the game and still lost.
And I'll say it one more time. Prescott is a ROOKIE 4TH ROUND PICK who suddenly became the Dallas Cowboys starter, a team that went 4-12 last year. If anyone could step in and play in that offense they wouldn't have gone 4-12 last year.
Dallas is 6-1. Best record in the conference. I'm not even going to mention struggles because every fucking quarterback struggles and he's a rookie. Even mentioning it is stupid. He's played well all year and is a solid ROY candidate and Dallas is in 1st place. Calling Dak Prescott overrated is stupid.

Let me specify. Once the Eagles went up by 10 they should've won with ease. That fake punt was a brilliant call and changed the entire game from there. Pederson is just getting outcoached. I also don't know how many times our CBs are going to let WRs make them look like they shouldn't be NFL CBs. That Dez Bryant play in the endzone should've been an easy TD and if the CB was looking was picked. There was another play down the left side of the field where if Mills turned around it would've been a pick. I forget which WR that was thrown to.

Prescott had an awful game in my opinion. I don't think he'll end up being a top 5-7 QB in the league unless he works on his touch a little better. He made some nice throws to Bryant and one to Beasley, but he overthrew Williams for a long TD, underthrew Bryant for an easy TD (there may have even been a 2nd time, but I forget now) and he needs to learn when to throw the ball away instead of forcing it. I just think he's the product of an amazing system and is overhyped. Dallas is definitely the best team in NFC East and I think I give them all the respect they're owed, but just not a fan of all the hype the QB is getting there. He doesn't impress me.

He was far more impressive against a top-tier defense than Wentz was against...the cowboys

I'll say this once more.

Wentz in the Cowboys offense would be putting up not just ROY #'s, but MVP numbers. Look at the OL in Dallas. Not to mention one of the top WR's (plus Beasley who's been top 10 with Dez out) in the NFL and arguably the best RB in NFL this year, but 100% a top 3 RB.

bdog1321
10-31-2016, 10:15 AM
And I mean it's not even arguable. Dak could go 100/100 for 300 yards like Wentz did on 3 and 4 yard passes and screens. But that doesn't show much. It's literally meaningless. Anyone who thinks Wentz played well or had a better showing than Prescott wasn't watching the same game. And if Prescott can beat you playing his worst game so far as a pro, you don't have a prayer when he's at his best.

bdog1321

Idk. I think with better receivers Wentz would look a lot better. But that line held up really well most of the game. He had all day to throw most of the time and sproles was KILLING the Dallas defense on the ground.

KBHoleN1
10-31-2016, 10:26 AM
Sproles was the key. He was darting through holes that weren't really there and hitting the second level at full speed. Cowboys were missing a lot of tackles on him, but it's because he was beating them to the spot and they were reaching to try to arm tackle him. I thought for sure we were going to lose when he started breaking off those big chunk runs in the second half. I can't believe he only got 15 carries as well as he was running the ball.

bludhoundz
10-31-2016, 10:39 AM
I mean Hugh that logic is pretty flawed. They had a lot of other problems last year and they didn't have Ezekiel Elliott. The kid is like a bulldozer in the body of a racecar. Dak has been good. Real good. But it's not dumb to call him overrated when everyone is riding his cock so hard. He has a lot of good pieces around him. The QBs the Boys had last year were abysmal
Truly bottom of the barrel. Dak is clearly good, and ill keep saying that. But hes missed throws and left plays on the field, while he's getting more credit for the 6-1 start than Zeke practically which is nuts. I think because it's just such a stark contrast to last year.

Also KB I wouldn't be so sure Romo would've beaten those blitzes either. I'm sure you remember quite a few Redskins games where they did nothing but bring the house against Tony at the end of the game and he couldn't get it done. I'm not saying he can't or wouldnt do it, but I'm not convinced he would have fared better than Dak

All that said, Eagles were in a position to win the game. The Cowboys battled back and showed mental toughness and won. Philly has a lot of flaws on offense but Wentz isn't the problem. Their receivers are trash and Sproles is the only RB they trust not to fumble.

Dallas is the team to beat in the east, and in the NFC for that matter. But we saw a few chinks in the armor today, and I'm happy to see that. Happy to see the Eagles lose too because well fuck them. If the GMen can get our offense going then a wild card berth is well within reach

Talking about 4th quarter comebacks and clutch and all that jazz, Derek Carr has 3 4th quarter comebacks this year with a combined stat line of 1031 yards passing 9TDs 0INT. We were one of the worst teams his first two years (but at least had talent last year) and he has 8 total 4th quarter comebacks. In those 8 comeback wins he has 19 TDs and 2 INT.

Tony Romo is one of the best 4th quarter comeback QBs all time, but had 7 in his first 3 years starting (Carr already has 8 in 2.5 years). Romo had 9TD and 12 INT in those 7 game wins (v. Carrs 19TD 2 INT).

Tom Brady, the GOAT, though had 15 fucking game winning drives in his first 3 years starting with 25 TDs and 11 INT.

I'm sure he does. Meanwhile the starting left tackle for Seattle yesterday made his first start as an offensive lineman since junior high. That's no bullshit. They flashed the stat during the game. Starting left tackle for Seahawks, protecting Russell Wilson's blind side, and he didn't even play line in high school. Fucking absurd.
I'm also sick of bitching about Jimmy Graham, but here goes. Once again we were unable to get him involved. 3 catches for 30 yards against a shitty defense in a game where we couldn't establish any offense. Mind boggling.
And with 1 second to go on the 10 yard line, down by 5 and needing a TD to win, Wilson throws a back corner endzone pass to who?
To who?
Jermaine Kearse, of course!
Not the 6'7" tight end who can windmill dunk a basketball. Not the guy who we're paying more than our entire offensive line combined. Not the guy who we got SPECIFICALLY for that situation. Fuck no. Way too obvious.

Maybe if they don't lose a game with him I can see it. But at this point he's won them 4 games. They won 3 without him. That to me says he is clearly not the most valuable player in the league this year

If you only play 12 games in a season, I don't see how you can be a top 3 candidate after just 4 games. He is playing lights out no doubt, but this MVP candidacy is just media sensationalism

4th quarter, feeling Raiders are having the perfect bye extending their lead in the AFC west. Then the Chiefs and Broncos prove that the West is the best.

fml. Sick games though.

As long as Oakland makes it and the Chargers don't I'm good with 3 AFC West teams in the playoffs. Broncos and Chiefs def deserve playoff shots though, I hope all of us make it.

Zeke with over 200 total yards and 3 of their 4 TDs. A lot of people doubted whether or not he would be that great and why Dallas picked him so high. The world is finding out why.

8 straight wins for Dallas. What a game. Prescott would probably be ROY if it wasn't for Elliott. Hell, Elliott might even win the MVP.

People are stupid, have poor memory or both. Wasn't that long ago that Demarco Murray was slaying behind that oline and Zeke is a good player. 2 + 2 = 4.

I'm gonna give the MVP to the entire Dallas oline.

I have a lot more respect for Romo after his comments yesterday. He's not the Cowboys QB anymore. He knows that. It's not about being ok with it or liking it. It's about not pissing in the face of logic, reason, and everyone involved in the situation except himself. It's about facing facts and accepting truth.
You should try it, bdog.:)

I feel so bad for him. I loved him being my QB. I cheered and cried with everything he did. I'm not sure I can come to grips with not seeing him as the Cowboys QB again. It's not fair. He has been so valuable for this team and it's never quite worked out and finally he has a decent defense and a kickass O-line and he can't stay healthy enough to play. I was so depressed after watching that press conference.

inb4 Dak RGIII's it

I don't think this will happen. Instead of reading the terms of sponsorship deals halfway through his rookie season, dak is learning to read defenses. Maybe if rg3 ever learned how to do that, "rg3ing it" wouldn't be seen as a bad thing.

Da Gyps
11-16-2016, 03:15 PM
Dak also doesn't have a long history of injuries.

Serge
11-16-2016, 03:17 PM
So I'm gonna disagree with Hugh here and say that I would 100% rather face the Cowboys with a perfectly healthy and red hot Prescott than a questionably healthy ice cold Romo.

The elite defensive coordinators are able to exploit rookie QBs. Look at the game logs of any QB who had a huge rookie year. Look for their games against teams like Pittsburgh or New England or any other team known for having a smart DC or defensive HC.

Since y'all brought up RG3 he's a perfect example. His inability to read defenses didn't slow him down against most teams that rookie year. He tore everyone up. Until he came up against Dick LeBeau and looked like a chump.

Hulky

The limited viewing of the Cowboys I've seen it doesn't matter if it's Dak or Romo the offense is block like a boss and run the ball.

Hugh

The limited viewing of the Cowboys I've seen it doesn't matter if it's Dak or Romo the offense is block like a boss and run the ball.

Romo is old. He's barely played in 2 years because of injury. He's not mobile.
Dak can run, escape pressure. He takes care of the football. He's confident and has the confidence of the team. They've won 8 in a row.
They aren't the same at all. How can you say it doesn't matter who plays?

Hulky
11-17-2016, 01:58 AM
I think they'd have beaten the Bears, 49ers and Browns with Weeden as their QB though. If Romo started then got hurt again all that happens is Dak goes back in the game. Injury really isn't an issue to me since they have depth at the position. Cowboys are cruising to the playoffs because they have a cupcake schedule.

Hugh
11-17-2016, 02:39 AM
Yeah, probably. Four of their wins are by 1 score though.
If you asked every player on the Cowboys team, in private, who they wanted to play QB after Romo is medically cleared, I bet almost every one would say Prescott. That's why it matters.

Romo to Denver. Denver wins another Superbowl with a stellar defense next year with an amazing QB that the original team doesn't want because of stupid injury stuff.
