PSU fans are incinerating atm. They just can't fathom how they didn't get in when they "beat tOSU and it wasn't a fluke" and Clemson and UW "don't have any quality wins". Please disregard the fact that PSU lost 2 games.

Like I said, he got hurt in the first game. Suh ran over his ankle when they played Miami and Russell could barely stand up. He wasn't thinking about playoffs or that the Cardinals would suck this year. He was thinking that at 50% he was still better than throwing an undrafted rookie QB out there in week 2.
Maybe you're right. Maybe he should have sat for a couple games. Point is you said he's performing about as well as Tyrod Taylor and that's true only because he played half the season injured. If you're suggesting Alex Smith or Tyrod Taylor are as good as Russell Wilson that's just stupid

Don't see the big deal with a rookie starting in week 2. For someone who preaches about Romo's health you'd figure you'd support him trying to stay healthy instead of making excuses for him.

Point is, the backup could play as well as Alex fucking Smith and Taylor. The seahawks are where they are at despite Wilson right now, not because of him.

Hugh
12-05-2016, 02:26 AM
Sano, you do this thing where you quote and specifically reply to a post without actually replying to it. You do it a lot. This is a perfect example. You said Wilson's numbers are similar to Taylor's and Smith's this year. That's true.
The reason is because he played half the season injured. That's also true. It's not for a different reason. Wilson is a better QB than both of them. You know it. Everyone knows it.
I said maybe Wilson should have sat when he got injured. Part of me wanted him to, and part of me hoped he'd just play through it. But why did the conversation turn to that? Who cares what I wanted? Who cares if he did or didn't?
Point is, you made a statement about his performance droppping off this season and I explained why. That's all.

Man, our offensive line is so terrible. They were called for holding like 4-5 times, and honestly they were holding on like every play. Marshall Newhouse is a backup. Ereck Flowers is struggling, and the other guys haven't been great or anything. Eli played badly, but it's to be expected somewhat when he feels the pressure so much.

I think our defense played well. We lost 3/4 of our defensive line starters, which is a big part of why Le'Veon was able to put up so many yards (a bunch came on their final, clock killing drive as well). But we held them to only 2 offensive TDs (21 points was a safety, 2 FGs and 2 TDs, they failed to convert on a 2-pt). The safety was terrible for the gamescript, it was a hold in the endzone very early in the game. The hold was like a 4 or 5/10 in terms of severity, and then later in the game their tackle also held in the endzone, it was more like a 7/10 and didn't get called.

Hate to be that guy but it really did feel like the refs were not on our side. They got away with several holds on offense, usually against Vernon who their left tackle clearly couldn't block very well - he had 2 sacks despite all the holds. They also failed to call DPI a few times when it was pretty obvious in my opinion. In fairness our defense got away with a few things but this didn't feel like an evenly called game to me.

EDIT: "But Sano, look at how many interceptions Russell Wilson doesn't throw!" - If only everyone else had Marshawn Lynch(or similar) as their running back to start their career.

I wonder due to the Seahawks defense, how many extra possessions have been gained for Russell and the offense, as well as starting field position.

I think Russell is pretty decent, especially with his ability to escape tackles and throw on the run, but when I've seen him play he sucks at throwing from the pocket consistently. He's not a top tier quarterback, and people who think he is are delusional.

KBHoleN1
12-05-2016, 01:44 PM
He scrambles well to pick up yards, and scrambles extremely well to make throws. He's probably the best in the NFL at throwing on the run and turning broken plays into big gains. And his receivers know he does this and don't give up on routes, so they are ready to complete those downfield throws. All that said, him being injured early in the year not only hurt his scrambling ability, but a big chunk of his passing game that comes outside the pocket. He's still young, and I think he'll improve as a pocket passer as he ages.

I can't speak for all Bengals fans, but I won't be able to cope with much of anything until we fire Marvin Lewis. He just doesn't get the best from his players. He's a pussy and everyone knows it.

As far as Dalton being a stud in the regular season, last year I would agree with you, but this year aside from yesterday's game he's just been average. A lot of that has been our paper-thin O-line getting abused most weeks though.

This was the type of game the Giants have been winning all year long. Tightly contested, and a defensive struggle. Our D stepped up huge and Dak looked frazzled back there. Vernon played great against Tyron Smith and our DBs held it down

Dallas coaching staff didn't seem to make enough adjustments after the half, if we end up playing a third time I expect to see more Elliott. Pats/Ravens shouldn't be held to the usual standard. They have very weird games and I don't trust the stats when it comes to them. Maybe the Ravens don't have the best defense but it's still dam good considering how shitty the offense usually is.

I agree with the first statement but I don't really see how that changes what I said. They may hold the #1 ranking and they are good, but media sensationalism hypes the matchup into something it isn't. Ravens v Pats is enough they don't need to add that extra tidbit that isn't even true, it's just dumb. Their schedule has had very lowly opponents in terms of offense and that inflates the numbers.

I actually think the Giants match up terribly versus the Seahawks, especially in Seattle. Idk if you guys noticed but the Seahawks aren't really that scary right now. Hugh will prolly just think I'm shitting on his team for the lulz but I'm not.

They have four games where they've won by more than one score. Three of those games were at home and the away game was against the Jets. Blowing out the Panthers and 49ers is the ONLY reason why they have a positive point differential. If you take out those two wins their PD is -8.

We can say the Seahawks have underperformed because of X, Y, Z, and that's fair and understandable. That just means they're going to continue to underperform BECAUSE of those reasons.

I get it. You're right, Sano. Seattle insists on being a run first offense, even though they found their offensive line at a garage sale and invested ridiculous millions in Jimmy Graham ( who they literally refuse to throw to in the red zone) and Jermaine Kearse ( who just isn't good ).
The fact that our left tackle didn't play college fucking football and our right tackle is an undrafted converted TE is exactly why Wilson was almost out for the season in the first game. I hope they learn from that next season.
But for now, for this year, you're right. No argument.
However, these are still the Seattle Seahawks. Our last 3 games are at home against the Rams and Cardinals, where we rarely lose and against terrible teams, and in San Fran. No need to comment there.
We should win out. We should get a first round bye and a home game at least. By that time Seattle should be cruising. They're an experienced playoff team. I'm just saying I like our chances, despite all the other stuff that I don't disagree with.

Judging from that game Seattle played against the Patriots and Seattle's consistency, they seem like the scariest team to play right now. Their mental focus was pretty insane to shutdown Brady like they did. I don't even think Brady had a bad night that night, either. I think he simply got shutdown as much as Brady gets shutdown when he's playing better than his average.

I think that defensive backfield really fucks with Brady's head lol.

Hugh

Seahawks defense is always capable of shutting down anyone. There are half a dozen pro bowl players on that defense.
But they need help, and the offense hasn't given them much this year. Now with Earl Thomas out they're going to need even more. Russell needs to play MUCH better than he has been.
But I'm confident he will. He's Russell Wilson.

The Seahawks just need to find their passrush again. The Packers OLine isn't as good as they looked against yall. Russell Wilson has fallen off the face of the earth too. His first 10 games he was lights out but these past would be concerning for me as a fan. Losing Earl Thomas is going to embolden QBs in the playoffs even more which will make or break Seattle if they can take advantage of QBs wanting to attack more. The rams yall barely beat the first time but idk if that was the week Wilson got hurt and that cardinals tie is ugly. Would not count out the cardinals and the 49ers are a bye this year. I hope yall do well because i like the seahawks outside of pete carroll. It's just uncharacteristic of these seahawks to play poorly in the later half of the season where they typically thrive.

I think Sherman intimidates/motivates Brady most.

I wish Seattle had a better offense to go with their defense. The defense is really young so they could do some historic shit if they beefed up the other side of the ball. I like Sherman a lot, think he's a smart dude. Russell is a gifted athlete, no doubt, but he lags behind in mental maturity. He childlike at times with all his religious bullshit. The way I see it: Tom Brady is so compelling because he's a moderately talented man of a large stature, but most of all he is a focused, ceaselessly driven individual. He is the consummate professional (a lawyer, for example) playing a game that is preoccupied (perhaps less and less) by people who are essentially teens or even younger children in terms of their mental development. Tom Brady carries a briefcase to work while most others carry a football. (Of course, Tom has footballs at the arena, so why would he need to carry one there?)

I could be way off-base, but I tend to find the most successful athletes are the ones who take the game the most seriously, like Tom and Bill do with their jobs. There is no room for bullshit, no room for rogue 'mistakes,' no room for celebrity in the locker room or around coaches or in front of the press. Some light banter between coaches and staff is allowed, but you have to earn it on the field.

I listen to WEEI so much more than I should. I used to commute to and from Durham every day, and I often drive long distances to get to where I need to go since I'm on the edge of the middle of nowhere. I love football and the Patriots culture. I love the rivalries Brady adopts as his own. I'm not a fanboy or anything, just sort of absorbed by it since I've grown up here my entire life. I'm always pessimistic when it comes to big games. I figured they would lose against Seattle and they probably will again if they play them in the Super Bowl. They should have lost the last one, anyways. :P

He is the QB-equivalent of that defense. He is like me when I play video games: he barks commands and orders to teammates and is focused to the point that it probably sometimes annoys his teammates all the things he tells them to do. That is a rare thing, to be able to focus on the game you yourself need to play, and to simultaneously focus on other things in the game that others needs to do. An example would be a basketball player who knows to shoot the ball instinctively upon reception of a pass, and so they call for the pass, except in football it's a lot more complex and difficult to keep track of all the things your teammates need to do since there are so many moving parts on the field. I think Sherman is an exceptionally gifted athlete, and a lot of his teammates are either inspired or motivated by him and presumably many of the things he does in practice/games.

pretty sure bludz has mentioned it before, but I think Chancellor and Thomas are both more important to SEA than Sherman is (I should probably phrase this past tense since I haven't watched any SEA games this year)

Sherman is just the loudest

there are a ton of strong pieces on that D, so its hard to say how one would play without their complements since obviously their job is to play as a unit

Hugh
12-15-2016, 12:03 AM
You might be right. We haven't seen the legion of boom without Earl Thomas until recently, and what we saw wasn't good. Also not a fan of how we look without Kam. Completely different.
But if I had to pick one player on defense to keep, all things considered, it would be Sherman. He's irreplaceable. I think he's the most important player to what Seattle does. His play, his attitude, his voice, his personality. Everything.

Maverik
12-15-2016, 12:11 AM
that's fair, and I would probably pick likewise if I was starting a new team

from my understanding, both Chancellor and Thomas are more reserved players, despite their huge skill-cap, and you always need that voice in the locker room

rainblade
12-15-2016, 01:47 AM
You say "is just the loudest," but I think communication is a critically important part of effective teamwork. Being the loudest might be a huge asset to any team. That's like saying, "He just encourages productivity and alertness the most."

Still think Earl Thomas is their most important player. No offense to Sherman who is great, but Green Bay torched Shead all game because they knew they could attack without worrying about help or they could go through the middle. As fearsome as Kam is with hits, Thomas can hit just as good and his ability to fly all over the field is beyond impressive.

Hulky
12-15-2016, 03:26 PM
I think DBs its all about communication and knowing what your team mate is going to do. When Seattle has Thomas Kam and Sherman together that's peak. They suffer with any piece removed. I think it's also why the other CB opposite Sherman is usually a guy groomed a bit in there system not a FA pick up (like Cary Williams experiment).

bludhoundz
12-15-2016, 07:46 PM
I agree that Earl is the most important. He is the best free safety in the league and no other player in the NFL can play the position the way he does. It's almost like the Darrelle Revis effect where the coach would put him on an island, it changes how you can gameplan your defense. Thomas allows Seattle to play single high safety and not be afraid of getting destroyed deep. Part of it of course is knowing you have Sherman on one side so Thomas can cheat a bit, but I think he opens up the scheme to more possibilities and that's what makes the ultimate difference beyond the voice or veteran leadership, which I think all 3 guys mentioned bring to the table. Also I won't ever say that Sherman doesn't allow this to an extent as well, but I think with Thomas it's more pronounced

Last thing is that it's really hard to gauge a players value to a team when they're not the only big time guy. We have seen Seattle without Kam. We are about to see them without Earl. we have yet to see them without Sherm

Man, Pete Carroll is trying to turn into Andy Reid out there. He's an excellent coach but the game management last night was pretty astounding. I'm not sure how you can throw 3 challenge flags before halftime and they were all on ball spots. You can't do that against good teams, fortunately for them the Rams suck ass.

And then you have the goal line scenario that happened. They gave the ball to Rawls, he ran them down to the 2, and they never gave him the rock again. Most startling is that they dialed up a pass play on third down after their first down play was almost picked off. It's like he forgot about the Superbowl, jesus christ

That's the dumbest type of penalty. Carr is step for step down the sideline and just before he ball arrives he panics and grabs him. Make him catch the ball and try to knock it away, at least you push him out of bounds. There's no chance you get away with a grab like that, so you're just giving up easy yards instead of forcing them to earn it.

I think the Dallas game plan this week was to beat the Lions (because the Giants would probably beat the Eagles and still be in the running for the division). That has changed, but I don't think it will drastically alter the game plan to beat the Lions and play to win. Especially with Zeke chasing the rookie record, I think he gets a healthy number of carries and we might see receivers or Dak get rest before we see Elliott pulled from the field. Elliott is so far ahead of Rawls, I don't think he possibility of fewer carries can really outweigh that. Stick with Zeke.

KBHoleN1
12-23-2016, 04:27 PM
Also, Zeke is more of a receiving threat on screen passes behind that O-line. I think if the game plan tilts towards getting key players rest and preventing injury, we're more likely to see fewer drop backs from Dak, which benefits Zeke both running and catching.

He was passed out at the fucking wheel. He had an empty bottle of liquor in his lap. He blew a .217, which is black out drunk.
He's been in trouble for alcohol related stuff in the past, but I'm not even talking about that. He's a 27 year old, established NFL vet now, and to be found in that condition, driving a car, and then blow it off as a "mistake" is a massive red flag. I just heard on tv that he told his teammates he only had a glass of wine or 2. I mean what about the empty 5th of Pendleton in your lap? What about blowing 3X the legal limit? The dude is in denial.

All of my sadness.

Also rip Carr. That really sucks for the Raiders.

Sorry, Hulky. So fucked.
Seahawks are fucked, too. They were set up to get the 2 seed and fucked it all away on a home game against a shitty team playing for nothing. Fucking retarded. I'm so pissed off right now.

They will still have it. Dallas will make sure of it

My condolences, Hulky. I know a thing or two about having high hopes dashed by your QB breaking his leg/knee.

Thank God he missed that field goal... I was gonna be pissed if we won haha.

Hulky

Not mad Carr will be back eventually, and we are still going to the playoffs and winning so it's not so bad.

McGloin for playoff success and $50,000,000 Cleveland Browns contract.

Hugh
12-25-2016, 01:17 PM
Glad to hear you say that, Hulky. I was worried we were going to have to talk you off a bridge.
The NFL is fucking brutal.

bludhoundz
12-25-2016, 01:29 PM
Is it just me or does it seem like every year now that the NFC playoffs are more compelling? In the AFC we now have Oakland without their #1 QB and a team that's basically destined to be one-and-done as usual in Houston. It's also a lot of the same faces (4/6?) from last year with New England, Pittsburgh, KC, and Houston returning to the playoffs. NFC is way different, with the top 2 seeds from last year totally out of the picture, 2 new division winners in those spots, and some of the NFL's bigger storylines like the rookie-led Cowboys, Green Bay's crazy run (I think they're gonna beat Detroit man) since being 4-6, and the Giants free agency frenzy actually paying off

Hugh
12-25-2016, 02:01 PM
Very true. I really want someone to knock off the Patriots but I just don't see it. Maybe Pittsburgh.

Serge
12-25-2016, 02:24 PM
Zero chance Green Bay loses to Detroit. It sucks that a Dallas/Green Bay NFCCG is unlikely due to seeding.

Also, family was talking about Derek Carr which led to talking about David Carr. And while Derek is infitely better than David ever was David Carr will always be an inspiration to me. That man got sacked more times in a season than anyone ever and he always got back up. The balls it must have taken to get back under center when you know damn well that you'd be back on your ass under a 300+ lb defensive end in seven seconds.

Hulky
12-25-2016, 02:25 PM
Give the Raiders Aldon back and we will win the SB.

bludhoundz
12-25-2016, 03:38 PM
I think you would need Carr back too

Hugh
12-25-2016, 04:48 PM
Ya think?

Hugh
12-25-2016, 05:25 PM
I truly admire Hulky's optimism, but Oakland has the 28th ranked defense in the league and Carr is a legit MVP candidate. They've been winning shootouts all year. There's no overcoming this loss.

bdog1321
12-25-2016, 08:18 PM

Chiefs SHOULD win this game, but lately they've been doing a good job at losing games they should win in Arrowhead (Bucs, Titans).

I am like 90% sure he dropped 20 pounds when he started playing in the NFL. He's still a big guy and really tough to tackle.

Also I wonder when teams will learn to be ready for Tyreek lol

For the championship:

Do I keep going with Zeke even though the Cowboys have locked up home field advantage?

OR........

Do I start Rawls instead? Not as good obviously, but Seattle will be playing hard and more importantly, AT HOME.

Don't fail me TAO
Hoping you started Zeke and not that bum Rawls. 8 carries for 8 yards? Lulz.

The Professor
12-27-2016, 12:36 AM
I left Zeke in. Didn't need him after all but still a good choice. We should make a collective TAO DraftKings account.

Yes. He was really good for like 15 minutes.

Greendaybum5
12-27-2016, 11:46 AM
Target him more? He had 11 catches for 150 yards tonight. He has 96 catches for 1323 yards on the season, which leads all receivers.
More than what?

not saying he hasn't had a great season. I'm saying Eli missed him quite a bit. 11 catches and probably missed him another 5-7 times if I were to rewatch the game. I just know there were times while sitting there saying he's double covered and still wide open. I never realized how good of a route runner he actually was until seeing it in person.
